Cali, Colombia

The UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali, Colombia, February 17 to 19, 2017, was Stefan’s Elite Track World Cup debut at the age of 18.

On Friday, February 17th, Stefan along with Canadian Sprint Teammates Hugo Barrette (Canadian Olympian) and Patrice Saint-Louis-Pivin, rode a Team Sprint of 44.704 placing them 9th out of 12 teams. This is the first time this sprint team rode together. Although hoping for top 8, the Team was happy overall it was in the 44s. Read more at Cycling Canada.

On Sunday, February 19th, Stefan rode in both the Kilo Qualification (placing 7th @ 1:02.145 out of 15 riders) and Kilo Final  with an 8th finish @ 1:02.848. Riding the Kilo twice in a day takes a tremendous amount of effort. The smile in the picture is misleading, he is just taking in a lot of air 🙂 1487612574757

“My first goal was to get into the top 8 for the final, and I did. In the final, I wasn’t as good as I expected or wanted, but I can’t really complain about a top 8 at my first World Cup.”

Stefan had the good fortune of experiencing Cali with another Edmonton Juventus Club member, Kinley Gibson, who won Bronze with the Canadian Women Pursuit Team – Congratulations to Kinley, Laura, Ariane, and Steph. Check out the full Juventus article and photos .

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Canadian athletes (photos) who participated at the Cali World Cup!
